What Makes a Good Paint Job?
Painting has changed more in the last decade than in the thirty years before it. Tighter regulations have pushed the industry away from traditional solvent-based paints and towards water-based products. The ingredients are different, they dry differently and they behave differently on every surface. It's no longer a case of picking a colour and opening a tin.
The right product, for the right job
This is where most paint jobs succeed or fail. Two products can look identical on the shelf and perform completely differently once they're on. Choose well and a finish can protect and look good for years. Choose badly and you're paying for it again far sooner than you should. The difference in long-term value is huge.

External work: specification and preparation
Outside, paint has to stand up to rain, frost, sun and timber that moves with the seasons. A finish that lasts comes down to knowledge and experience: assessing the surface properly, specifying the right materials, and putting the time into preparation before a brush is lifted. Get that right and the paint does its job. Get it wrong and no product, however expensive, will hold up.
